Foreign Portfolio Investors' Buying in Indian Equities Continues in June 2025
Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) maintained their buying streak in Indian equities for the third consecutive month in June 2025, signaling a positive start to the financial year 2025-26. FPIs recorded significant net purchases of Indian stocks during the month, with the majority of buying concentrated in key sectors like financial services, oil & gas, automobiles, and telecommunications.

June 2025 FPI Activity: A Closer Look
Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) continued their buying spree in Indian equities in June 2025, marking a strong beginning to the financial year. According to NSDL data, FPIs net purchased Indian stocks worth ₹14,590 crore during the month, following net inflows of ₹4,223 crore in April and ₹19,860 crore in May. While the first half of June saw FPIs net selling equities worth ₹5,404 crore, robust inflows of ₹19,991 crore in the second half offset these sales.
Top Sectors Bought and Sold by FPIs in June 2025
During June 2025, FPIs displayed selective buying behavior in Indian equities, with a clear preference for sectors like financial services, oil & gas, automobiles, and telecommunications. The financial services sector topped the charts with net inflows of ₹8,946 crore, attracting sustained interest throughout the month.
The oil & gas sector witnessed significant inflows of ₹6,137 crore, benefiting from improving energy demand and global crude market trends. The automobile and auto components sector experienced a sharp turnaround, with net inflows of ₹5,020 crore during the month.
Outflows in Certain Sectors
However, sectors like power, FMCG, and consumer durables faced selling pressure during June. The power sector recorded the steepest FPI selling, with net outflows of ₹6,311 crore. FMCG stocks witnessed net outflows of ₹3,985 crore, while the consumer durables sector saw sustained FPI outflows of ₹2,493 crore.
