India pushes for a permanent solution for border demarcation with China through structured engagement. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stressed the need for trust-building and resolving complex issues.

India urged for a permanent resolution of border issues with China during talks between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun. Singh emphasized rejuvenating established mechanisms for border management to find a permanent solution through engagement and de-escalation. Discussions also focused on bridging the trust deficit created by the 2020 military standoff in eastern Ladakh. Both countries have differing perceptions of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), leading to face-offs along the border.

They agreed to continue consultations at various levels to advance disengagement, de-escalation, and border management. Singh's visit marked the first high-level meeting between India and China since the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020. The recent disengagement at Depsang and Demchok in Ladakh allowed the armies to overcome a two-year deadlock in negotiations, reducing border tensions.

To ensure stability in the region, both sides need to demarcate the LAC in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, eliminating face-offs during patrols. Singh commended efforts to restore normalcy in bilateral relations and stressed the importance of good neighborly conditions for mutual benefit and regional stability.

The dialogue also addressed the need to avoid complicating India-China relations further. Singh underscored the significance of upholding positive momentum and preventing new complexities. Talks with Admiral Dong Jun included the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra after six years, highlighting the need for mutual cooperation and avoiding additional challenges.
