Nationwide General Strike on 9 July 2025: 25 Crore Workers to Participate
More than 25 crore workers from various public service sectors are expected to join the nationwide general strike called by 10 central trade unions to protest the government's policies. The strike aims to address issues like unemployment, job creation, and worker rights.

More than 25 crore workers from public service sectors including banking, insurance, coal mining, postal services, and construction are set to participate in a nationwide general strike on 9 July 2025. A coalition of 10 central trade unions has called for a 'Bharat Bandh' to protest the government's anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate policies.
Amarjeet Kaur from All India Trade Union Congress stated, 'More than 25 crore workers are expected to take part in the strike. Farmers and rural workers will also join the protest across the country.' The unions are actively preparing for the strike to make it a grand success.
Demands include addressing unemployment, recruitment against sanctioned posts, job creation, increased remuneration for MGNREGA workers, and enactment of legislation for urban areas. The government's focus on employment-linked incentive schemes for employers has drawn criticism from the unions.
