Indian Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla Acknowledges ISRO's Efforts in Axiom-4 Mission
Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, part of the Axiom-4 mission on the International Space Station (ISS), recently spoke with ISRO Chairman V Narayanan to appreciate the support and safety measures provided by ISRO for his journey. Narayanan, also the Secretary of the Department of Space, emphasized the importance of documenting all experiments for future insights into India's human spaceflight program Gaganyaan.
The Gaganyaan program aims to demonstrate India's capability to launch crewed spacecraft into low Earth orbit, with learnings from the Axiom-4 mission expected to be crucial for its success. Shukla, with the call sign 'Shux', is actively involved in various experiments on the ISS, focusing on bone health, radiation exposure, and scientific activities in microgravity conditions. These experiments could potentially lead to advancements in healthcare and space sustainability.
Additionally, Shukla's mission includes studies on how bones deteriorate in space and how they recover on return to Earth. By analyzing biological markers related to bone formation, inflammation, and growth, researchers aim to create a digital twin that simulates an astronaut's bone response to spaceflight and recovery.
