China Objects to Indian Ministers Wishing Dalai Lama on 90th Birthday
China objects to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ministers celebrating Dalai Lama's 90th birthday, reiterating Beijing's stance on Tibet.

China on Monday objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishing the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday and Indian ministers flocking to his residence in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reiterated Beijing's consistent position on Tibet, stating that the Dalai Lama is a political exile. India should fully appreciate the sensitivity of Tibet-related issues and recognize the anti-separatist nature of the 14th Dalai Lama, she said.
The Chinese embassy in India protested against the Dalai Lama's announcement regarding the continuation of the reincarnation system, asserting that he has no authority to decide on the matter. Prime Minister Modi extended warm wishes to the Dalai Lama, calling him an enduring symbol of love and compassion. Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and Sikkim Minister Sonam Lama attended his birthday celebrations in Dharamshala.
Last Wednesday, the Dalai Lama stated that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue, with only the Gaden Phodrang Trust having the authority to recognize his future reincarnation.
