The Indian government has announced plans to increase its coal-fired power capacity to 100 GW in the next seven years, exceeding its previous target of 80 GW. The decision comes as India faces a surge in electricity demand and rising coal production. The additional capacity is expected to require an investment of ₹1 trillion, as each 1 MW of power costs an average of ₹5 crore.
